MEMBER SPOTLIGHTS

Kristi Penn – March 2019

I enjoy working out with others and find the motivation from them that they are working just as hard to achieve their best/goals. From the first day I joined, I have felt welcomed as FSI. Chris is a wealth of knowledge and pushes me to give it my all!!! He is patient with me and ensures that I am completing the movements correctly as to not injure myself.

The most important thing I have gained since starting FSI in October 2018 is confidence. I look forward to going to FSI and have newfound confidence. I have more energy in my day to day activities. I have dropped one size so far and feel so much stronger. I can’t wait to see what the future brings working out at FSI.

I love to play TATER**!!!! The best part of my training is the results that I am seeing. I like how everyone in the class is positive and encouraging to others. It isn’t a competition.

To me, FSI is a welcoming fitness center that does not judge you by size or age. FSI is a safe and encouraging atmosphere that will push you to do your best and help each person achieve their goals. I have been to many gyms, and this one is by far my favorite

(**Everyone needs to experience TATER!)

Peggy Crowe – April 2019

I needed to get back to strength training, but I’ve had issues with my neck and upper back for years.  That made me apprehensive about doing it on my own.  To help those issues be corrected, strength training was part of the answer.  I wanted guidance, so I didn’t make my situation worse.

It’s all a work in progress.  Some days I feel like I rocked it when I leave the gym.  Other days, I feel like I’m not advancing as quickly as I should.  Looking back to where I began, it excites me to see the strides I’ve made.  I watch my three-year-old granddaughter, and I am definitely able to keep up with her, carry her and play with her better than I could before.  My pain is much more manageable.  Physically speaking, I am stronger.  This workout has made me mentally stronger, as well.

The best part of training is probably the Turkish get-up.  It’s physically and mentally challenging if done correctly.  I enjoy being challenged, and I compete against myself a lot during my workouts.

It’s like no other gym I’ve ever experienced.  The absence of machines and focus on what I would call “manual” workouts are evident.  Chris individualizes the workouts for my goals/ability, but he pushes me too.  He knows when I can handle something new.  It’s a 1 ½ hour round trip for me, so I needed to feel a difference to justify the time spent going to the gym.  I have never left a workout at FSI, thinking it was a waste.  My progress seems as important to Chris as it is to me, and that means a lot.

(Who knew the Turkish Get-Up was so popular!)

Jameel Ahmed – May 2019

I’ve been trying to make fitness a part of my weekly routine for years now. A friend of mine suggested FSI, and I thought I would try it.  I find that having a set workout schedule where someone is waiting for me has helped me stick with it.  I also like that Chris is low key and that he is able to find a line that pushes you to get results while taking into account your fitness level and current limitations.

While I haven’t transformed into a bodybuilder, I have definitely improved my fitness based on what I can accomplish in my workouts.  In my regular life, I feel a significant improvement.  I am a bit stronger, and I have less back pain, much more flexibility, and endurance.  Many of the niggling aches and pains of getting older have been significantly reduced.

I like that my workouts are structured yet contain some variations; the complex movements make for an efficient workout.  I like that I don’t have to think about it very much. I trust Chris to keep me moving forward.

I think FSI is a place that will help someone form a basis for a healthy lifestyle. As long as you are willing to put in the work and that you are ready to be consistent in showing up, you will be able to make progress on the fitness front. You will also be connected to resources that can help you with other aspects of a healthy lifestyle, such as nutrition.

Kathi McBride – June 2019

I train at FSI because I enjoy working out, and the workouts at FSI are always challenging.  Chris changes up the workouts by making a game-type setting out of some. The workouts are enjoyable, and even though I continue to challenge myself to meet personal goals, the gym and all the people in it are positive influences in me meeting my fitness goals. The biggest factor is that at FSI, you are there for yourself and your own personal goals. You are not in competition with anyone. You are encouraged by others, but no one ever judges you by the weights you use or what you can do.

I have seen a loss on the scale. I have also lost inches. My clothes are fitting better. The biggest results I have seen are the improvements in my running. When I started at FSI, I could barely run to the tree without having to walk back, and now I can run further and more times without stopping. This is not without the help of other’s encouragement and running by my side.  I have also increased my weight one time since I started at FSI. I started with a shoulder injury, and now I am doing regular push-ups. You just want to better yourself, and you know you can reach your goals.

The feeling you get after you are done with your workout. The accomplishment. You know that you are going to the gym, and you will see the same people who are now becoming like family to you there right by your side.  You know that you will complete the workout. The feeling of reaching my goals. Making my kids proud of me. I want to be healthy, and I do not want my kids to worry about taking care of me in the future.

It is a gym that you can reach your goals at your own pace while surrounded by positive people and a knowledgeable coach. It is not going to be easy, but it will be worth it. There will be times that you want to give up, but there will be people that will encourage you to keep pushing. You will see change, and you will never be judged or feel out of place or uncomfortable. If you take the first step, you will not regret it.

Lorri Voltmer – July 2019

I train at FSI to get and feel healthy. Also, it is in a great location. I like the people that I have met in the years since I started. Overall, I feel much better, and I am definitely stronger and healthier. My back does not hurt all of the time like it used to. My balance is much better, and I can jog a lot more than I could before. Not to mention, my Cornhole and Jenga game has improved, too! LOL 😊

The best part of my training is Chris! I know that I can start my day at the gym. Chris is a great trainer, and I never know what to expect day-to-day. If you have an area that you are struggling with, he is always there to help. Fitness Solutions is a great place to get a large variety of exercises that is a whole body workout every time with a splash of fun and surprises for the first 45 minutes of my day. I like the people I work out with every day and the new friends I meet along the way.

Amber & Michael Scully – August 2019

We train at FSI because we love the atmosphere and Chris as a trainer. He pushes us to do our best and makes working out fun and challenging.  Michaels loves to lift weights, and he sees Chris as a mentor.

I have personally seen increased strength and definition in my legs and arms. Michael has put on several pounds of muscle and continues to do so. His quads and upper body has changed from a boy into a young adult. He often comments that he is no longer “thick” and is very pleased with his results in the past year.

The best part for Michael about training is his personal results and growth. On the other hand, I also love the results, the increased energy, and the mental therapy it provides. I most love the fact that my son and I have a common likeness. There are very few 14-year-old boys that like and want to hang out with their mom. I feel it is a bonding time for mother and son. It also carries over into our personal lives. We talk about working out; I think it has only strengthened our relationship. All of my kids have always come with me to work out, and the other two are just waiting to get older, so they too may join Michael and me.

I would describe FSI to a friend as an awesome laid-back gym that has a caring trainer that truly wants the best for his clients is there for them and will push them beyond what they think they are able to achieve. I feel like it is an extension of my family; everyone is kind, hardworking, and absolutely no judgment.  Chris focuses on exercises that work, not what is popular or the new trend. Michael and I always get a good workout; the proof is the next morning when our guts are killing us as we walk up or downstairs.

Amy Frederick – September 2019

I train at FSI because I love the fact that no two days are ever the same.  I need to have variety when it comes to training, and I’ve found that with FSI.  I love the classes and the camaraderie that is shared with the workouts.

In my initial joining of FSI, I lost about 25 pounds and gained a lot of muscle and strength.  I recently had a partial knee replacement. The eight months of being out of the gym (3 prior to surgery and 5 after) caused me to gain weight because I was restricted with what I could do.  Once given the green light, I was back at FSI, amongst my friends, and training yet again.  Chris does a great job of making modifications to suit a client’s needs due to health restrictions, even in a class setting. Since my surgery caused me to lose a lot of leg strength, I hit the gym again.  I have been back a month, and I am feeling a lot more like myself.  I can see the strength that I had lost slowly returning.

I can’t pick just one.  I love the friends that I have made at the gym and with whom I train.  I couldn’t wait to get back to the gym because I missed ‘my people’.  As I mentioned previously, I need variety as I get bored easily with exercise. I have found that variety with FSI.  Chris does a fantastic job of mixing it up and getting in a great overall workout.

If you are looking for a great place to train, where you can lose weight, become stronger, and make great friends, FSI is your place. The fact that I was out for eight months and eagerly came back is a great testament to what Chris is doing to help make and keep us all healthier versions of ourselves.

Mark Frisz – October 2019

I retired as a wrestling coach in 2017. After this, I was looking for a way to stay physically active. My wife had been going to Fitness Solutions for several months at the time. She invited me to go to a class. I have been hooked ever since. Chris provides challenging workouts for people of all ages and fitness levels. I really like the variety he puts into the classes. The classes are as tough as you want them to be. You get out of it what you put into it. I have never had a bad day at Fitness Solutions.

I thought I was in pretty good shape when I began going to Fitness Solutions, but nothing compared to how I feel now. My endurance has increased dramatically. I feel stronger and have better muscle tone. I have more energy to get through everyday living.

The best part of training at Fitness Solutions is Chris and the other members. Chris is familiar with each individual and has the knowledge and experience to plan workouts in which everyone can feel successful at the end of the class. He knows when you need to be pushed harder or when you need to modify and moderate. The other members make the classes fun as well. Everyone is going through the same thing, so there is plenty of support and encouragement. The people who work out at Fitness Solutions seem to genuinely care about one another.

I would recommend Fitness Solutions to anyone who wants to improve their overall fitness and health. No matter what your fitness goals are, you can reach them by training at Fitness Solutions. It truly is training for life.

Joe Biggs – November 2019

I had known Chris since the mid-1990s when we both worked for Union Hospital. Beginning then, and continuing to this day, I have always been impressed with the knowledgeable and evidence-based approach he brings to fitness and training. I have been particularly impressed with his articles in the TribuneStar. Each class and exercise he has his clients do is mechanically sound, and he is there with you to correct problems in posture and form, which could potentially cause injury.

As most individuals interested in remaining fit, for years, I convinced myself that I could maintain an exercise routine on my own and motivate myself to get to the gym several times a week. I seldom did. As a result, my lipid profile numbers steadily increased. Since joining Fitness Solutions, Inc., two years ago, my glucose, triglyceride, and cholesterol numbers have returned to normal, and I feel better overall. My strength and stamina levels have increased, and I don’t have the self-criticism for not exercising regularly.

As an aging athlete whose muscles and joints sustained the abuse of years of high school and collegiate wrestling, I appreciate Chris’s attention to the individual physical needs, limitations, and abilities of each participant. I enjoy the camaraderie of the fitness classes and the way Chris and the other participants make them fun. The music, light-hearted back-and-forth bantering, and the rousing and entertaining games of “Tater” are highlights.

Among the fitness programs/centers available in this area, Chris has by far the best one, focusing on safe and science-based multi-jointed, functional movements with a proven record of results. The classes are physically challenging but non-competitive and fun. Chris’s emphasis on safe and correct form in completing each exercise is paramount and guides every workout. In a short 45 minutes, an individual can achieve an intense workout while enjoying some good-natured back-and-forth bantering, an excellent education in music history, and an ever-changing interpretation of the rules and regulations of the game Hot Potato.

Melody Brown – December 2019

FSI is a crazy, fun, challenging “gym” with talented, creative, knowledgeable staff that definitely get results. Since you either workout in a small class or with a personal trainer, you are assured of doing the specific exercises in the correct form. Modifications are readily available to meet individual needs. Each workout is new, no boring same old thing. Have you pushed tires?  Flipped a log?  Balanced water or sand-filled poles?  I have!  Signing up for a class or making training appointments hold all accountable and get you there on those days when it would be easy just to skip. Everyone at FSI is friendly and encouraging as we all work towards our own personal goals. Chris and Ivory get excited as they see you reach goals and continue to expand your efforts. Fun with results! FSI definitely improves your quality of life!

First, I love seeing the results and reaching new goals. Next, I enjoy both Chris and Ivory. They both push me beyond what I think is possible while still listening to me and watching my efforts, and correcting my form. No slacking allowed but also I’m not pushed beyond safety. The workouts are varied and fun.

Over the past 4-5 years, I have seen wonderful results. My bone density test results have improved. The scores are so much higher that my doctor feels no further testing is needed. My balance has noticeably improved. If I do trip now, I am able to catch myself and avoid a fall. My overall strength has greatly expanded. When I started at FSI, I couldn’t even do a normal push-up; now, I do full sets. I started out using a few weights. My weights have increased steadily; I now deadlift more than I weigh! I have not noticed any energy loss as I age, which I contribute directly to working out.

I train with FSI to maintain and improve my quality of life and mental sharpness. As a 70-year-old, I want to be as healthy and active as I can be.  FSI has quality, educated, dedicated staff that works with me to meet and exceed my goals.

Haley Sakbun – March 2020

I began training at Fitness Solutions, my freshman year of high school with my older sister Apsara to help my swimming.  She’s currently swimming at Ball State. Improvements I have seen are that my walls and underwaters have significantly improved as well as the power of my kick when sprinting. I am not a very muscular person, but I am starting to notice my calves, quads, and biceps getting toned.

Hard to believe, but rowing and deadlifting, even though they are hard, are my two favorite workouts. With rowing, I feel really helps build my arms and simulates the pull of my strokes, which are also becoming stronger.  Deadlifting is also very helpful for pushing off walls and gives me a powerful start off the blocks.

I have had the best experience at Fitness Solutions. Chris Davies knows what workouts are the most beneficial to the sport you play, and he is very motivating. Additionally, he truly cares about his athletes and works to improve their mental toughness as well as physical ability.

Lauren Rowe – April 2020

I train at FSI as a great way to condition for tennis and stay in shape all year round. There is always a positive attitude, which is a great motivator to push me to get the most out of my workout.

I have noticed a great improvement in my speed and strength. The workouts are solid for all upper body, lower body, and core. Since going to FSI, I have seen tremendous improvements in all of those areas and my tennis game.

The best part of my training at FSI is getting a solid workout that pushes me every time I go. The workouts are variable, so all muscle groups are strengthened, which is important for my tennis game. All the people there are really nice, and Chris makes sure to push us to get the most out of our workout.

FSI is suited for any individual looking to push themselves and improve their physical state. The workouts change daily, are fun and unique, and the people who attend are all really friendly. It is overall a great place to go to get a solid workout.
